KODAGU POWER NEEDS

Present Distribution Licensee catering power to KODAGU District. CHESCOM  Madikeri Division, Chamarajanagar & KODAGU Circle, Points for discussion.

1.    Present system:   Seven 66 KV & Four numbers of 33KV substations    cater power to Kodagu District (Five Taluks).      KPTCL  [ Transco] has plans of upgrading 33 kv stations to 66KV(Srimangala,Murnad, Somwarpet, Siddapura) and establish new stations in 2022-23 Annual plan of works.

2.  KODAGU District has a geographical  area of 4109 Sq km area with 40% Reserve Forest & Deemed Forest Areas and population of 5,32,000 is  fed by  83 nos of 11 kv feeders. Plans for Eight new 66 Kv ss are in pipe line with addition of 32 nos of 11 KV feeders.

3.      KUSHALNAGAR 220/66 Kv Main station feeding South and North KODAGU need to be strengthened and out going lines rearranged.

4. Need for additional 220/66KV Receiving  station at MADIKERI  District hqs.   By horizon year 2026   Load is expected to be   of 40 Mws+ as per the projections of Home Stay Owners associations, Kodagu District Chamber of Commerce and Kodagu Planning Authority. New substations are under consideration in   the Hobli head quarters  around MADIKERI.

5.  Establishing substation at MADENADU (Sampaje Hobli) on western part of Madikeri town backed up by Community solar plant to augment power during summer to arrange quality power to rural areas DTCS of Madenadu, Katakeri, Hebbatageri Karavale Badaga Galibeedu, Bettathur Kolagadal, Avvandur of Madikeri Kasba/ Sampaje / Bhagamandala now tapped from Raja Seat urban feeder  & different lengthy rural feeders need to be studied and examined.

6.     KPTCL is requested to consider:

 i)  extending 66 KV D/c line from Kushalnagar  to Somwarpet (Harangi –Jamboor) to connect existing stations & proposed new Substations of SOMWARPET & KUSHALNAGAR Taluk on northern parts of KODAGU   proposed to be connected to  66KV Madikeri Lines.

ii) 66KV Dc line from KNR to SIDDAPURA( Beetikaadu) to feed loads of Ponnampet & Virajpet and improve Voltage profile and save ENERGY.

7.   Load growth is anticipated in MADIKERI CMC area now  fed by six 11kv feeders ( Five urban & One water supply) and in 67 villages of four hoblis by Ten feeders.

To consider additional 220 KV Receiving Station to  KODAGU for stable & safe POWER during outages of present  single source of 220 Kv DC from Bastipur to Kushalnagar.

8. To consider extending second source of Power to KODAGU District from Shanthigrama 400/220 KV  POWER GRID :

9.    Details of   distribution network ( SLD), Peak load in Amps & Megawatts, Energy sent out in feeders per annum,  sold ,Aggregate Technical loss for the year 2021-22 with conductor details at each section   of HT line ( Trunk & Spur ) of Maragodu, Napoklu & Hoddur   feeders fed from MURNAD 33/11 KV substation  is urgently  requested  for  examining the need for improvements to feeder.

10. Project of upgradation of Murnad 33 )11kvto 66)11kv  sanctioned long back need to be awarded on turn key basis   with 12.5 MVA Transformer and additional feeders tapping the " Madikeri- Virajpet 66 KV Link line " work under progress. Hoddur feeder tail end Consumers are suffering.

11) To consider establishing 33 kv stations in remote forest areas like Peraje Karike Chelavara Bettageri, Galibeedu and other areas as ROW with 18 meters width for 66 KV transmission lines is difficult in western ghat hilly terrain.

Improvement of voltage in VIRAJPET: 66 kv station in year 2008 was receiving power 220/66 KV Receiving station KUSHALNAGAR at 78.5 kms. In peak season of Feb bus voltages had dipped to 59 Kv.
37.38 kms Link line between Madikeri & Virajpet was completed in time by Ms PVR Constructions Super Grade Class-1 Electrical Contractor and commissioned on 28-11-2023. System improved the bus volage to 66 Kv at 65.88 kms from Source . System synchronised with Periyapatna- Hanagodu- Ponnampet- Virajpet line . MLA Virajpet has taken forward the issue of urgent need of 66 Kv to VIRAJPET from KUSHALNAGAR via SIDDAPUR
