Distribution system :
Management of Distribution system in Karnataka is passing through an vital transition. BANGALORE POWER & LIGHT & MYSORE POWER & LIGHT were two organisations under Mysore Princely State till 1947 & later till 1957 was managing Generation transmission & distribution along with construction of new lines. Telephones between Mysore Palace & Bangalore Palace was being maintained by MPL & BPL.
Government of Mysore Electrical Department formed in 1957(GOMED) which was looking after Generation Transmission Distribution construction and maintenance, gradually restructured as Electricity Board. HECP & Later as Genco[KPTCL] Transco[KPTCL] and Discoms{ Five numbers} .
Ministry of Power, CEA and MNRE are allocating funds to State ESCOMs under different schemes District wise to bring in the HT lines and LT lines in conformity with CEA Regulations minimising HT : LT ratio and reducing energy loss in Transmission and maintaining HT and LT voltage regulation within prescribed limits.
Corporate office of respective ESCOMS have the details of works carried out under improvements in each financial year under State and Central Government assistance Plan & Non Plan schemes.
Under annual maintenance of Distribution System failure of distribution transformers is the major operations cost to rural Distribution. During monsoon due to wind and gale, trees fall on the lines causing damages to HT and LT distribution.Conventional LT & HT protection system is unable to protect the transformers from these faults.
