Madikeri Electricity at a glance:

PREAMBLE: 

Madikeri Hill Town- Taluk & district Hqs: Seat of Kodagu Raj from 1681 to 1834,  under British Rule by Chief Commissioner in Madikeri till 1947. 1952 till  1956 under   independent “C “ State of COORG under Union of India. From 1956 it is part of KARNATAKA GOVERNMENT. Kodagu District is part of western ghat,  rich in Bio Diversity, sacred by heritage and  Origin of River Kaveri & other tributaries of Harangi,  Lakshmana Theertha flowing east wards & Payaswini (Nujikal River) flowing westwards and joining Arabian sea. Land of Generals & brave soldiers , place of residence of Field Marshal Cariappa & General Kodandera S Thimmaiah and the many  brave serving the Nation and guarding our borders. 

MADIKERI town is   hqs of   Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Zilla Panchayath, Taluk Panchayath seat of administration, CMC, DCC BANK, DIC, First Grade Arts Science And Commerce College under affiliation of MANGALORE UNIVERSITY, Government Medical College & Head Quarters Government Hospital & Nursing Homes, Industrial Estate, Press & Publishing Houses, Good Education Institutions,   Polytechnic & ITI. Sainik Welfare Office with CSD canteen, Wild Life Society and Division & Circle administrative office of different Government departments Forest/ Revenue/ Roads & Communication/ Irrigation/ Education/ Agriculture/ Horticulture and Community/ Convention centre of different ethnic communities. With heritage monuments of erst while rule Palace, Fort, and other places of history & scenic spot it is one of the popular tourist destination of Southern India with ITDC & KSTDC establishments. 

Electricity  to Madikeri Town street lights and central prominent places arranged by Coorg Government by installing Diesel Generator in Power House of Pensioners Lane in 1952. In 1962 33/11 KV substation was established near Sudarshan Circle and power supply arranged to Town by 11 KV distribution system. Later it was extended to surrounding rural areas in phased manner under different schemes of Government. 33/11 KV   substation was upgraded to 66 /33/11 Kv in 2010 from Two   66 Kv circuits for a distance of 28.5 KMs from Kushalnagar  via Suntikoppa. 220/66 Kv Receiving Station was established in KUSHALNAGAR on the western bank of river Kaveri receiving power from SRS Hootagalli 220 kv Receiving Station, now receives directly from 400/220 KV 2*315 MVA Main Receiving Central Grid Power Station at Bastipur, located on Yelwal-Belagola Road, MYSURU district.   The Electrical Substation and associated incoming Power transmission lines at Madikeri is managed by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd with One AE T&S at Madikeri, Nodal centre headed by AEE at Kushalnagar 220 kv Station under administration by Division at SRS HOOTAGALLI MYSORE, under Technical & administrative control of Chief Engineer ( Electricity) TRANSMISSION ZONE, MYSURU.  

SUB STATION Details:

A)     KPTCL-MADIKERI : Bank-1: 12.5 MVA, 66/33/11 Kv Transformer connected at 66/11Kv- Connected to Six feeders. Bank-2: 12,5 MVA 66/11 Kv Transformer installed in 2010 & in service is replaced by 8.0 MVA 66/11 Power Transformer feeding Five urban feeders.[ 309 dtc's- 23648KVA; 29 HT installations, One Town Water Supply (4tc's:1250KVA) , Five Rural feeders(448 nos- 18696 KVA]

B)      CHESCOM-MURNAD:  1 of 5.0 Mva 33/11 kv  feeding entire Napoklu Hobli and parts of Madikeri Kasaba Hobli by Five 11 KV Rural feeders( PARANE/NAPOKLU/MURNAD/MARAGODU/HODDUR.

C)    KPTCL  new substation proposals: 66/11 Kv substations are proposed by KPTCL at the request of CHESCOM, to improve system voltage and arrange quality of Power supply of Madikeri Taluk.  I) Bhagamandala Hobli ( At KOPATTI Village)   ii) At SAMPAJE Hobli hqs near Govt Middle School ( Sy no 54/1) Under fast track State/ Centre funded projects.

D)     Maragodu & Napoklu Hobli  area HT distribution is under study for Techno Economic feasibility to examine Alternatives for improvement of Distribution system.[Strengthening HT distribution or establishing 33 kv or 66KV Substation at Nelaji Road.

Urban area is fed by  Six feeders & Rural area of Sampaje Bhagamandla & Part of Madikeri Hobli are fed by Five( 5) Rural feeders of Madikeri 66/11 Kv substation and Five  feeders from Murnad 33/11 KV substations feeding part of Madikeri Hobli & Napoklu Hobli. . 

Per capita Consumption of Rural area: 320 units. No of Installations :LT: 14624 , HT   : 29 ,  No of DTCs : 305 nos[ (250*9)+(100*113)+(63*97)+(25*85)+(15*1)]; Capacity in KVA/MVA= 21800 / 21.80, HT Lines: 413.50Kms, LT Lines: 753.36 Kms. 67 Revenue Villages of Four Hobli ( Madikeri Kasaba, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Napoklu  with population of 125000 is catered by Five rural feeders from MADIKERI KPTCL substation & Five Rural feeders of  MURNAD CHESCOM substation, Number of O& M Units: SIX - Madikeri Town(U), Madikeri Rural {Thalathmane-O&M-2};SAMPAJE; BHAGAMANDALA; NAPOKLU;MURNAD. 

Number of Sub Divisions: ONE )  under Technical & Administrative control of: i)(Executive Engineer ) Kodagu O&M Division at Madikeri, ii) Superintending Engineer (El); Chamarajnagar & Kodagu Circle at MYSORE iii) Chief Engineer(Electrical) MYSURU ZONE MYSURU iv) CHESCOM-MANAGING DIRECTOR – COMPANY CORPORATE office MYSORE.

 MADIKERI SUBDIVISION is one of the privileged Subdivision of KODAGU in CHAMUNDESHWARI ELECTRICITY SUPPLY COMPANY chosen under Government “JANASNEHI YOJANA” of Government of India for fast track services on line with one Two Shift urban service station. One accounting unit with AAO. 

MADIKERI SUB-DIVISION:

i)Karike Village receives power from KERALA STATE ELECTRICITY BOARD [ Thondammal 33/11 KV substation]. M/s BPCL Hydel Power of 11.0 Mws Generation is located at KARIKE  and Energy  is  pumped to Sullia substation  at 33 Kv  as there is no nearby substation  in KODAGU district   for evacuation. 

ii)PERAJE VILLAGE receives power for 45 dtc’s -1691kva from KOLCHAR the feeder & SAMPAJE feeder of SULLIA MUSS.

 iii) GADIKALLU Sampaje to Kallugundi Town: Energy is exported as INTER-ESCOM export  from f-8 feeder of MADIKERI Station to ARANTHODU O&M section of SULLIA Taluk, SULLIA SUB DIVISION/ PUTTUR Division.

Power Infrastructure Needs: Needs alternate source of stable power to District . To meet 2027 Power demand) 220/66 KV station  near District hqs will be required with stable Inner & outer Ring with multi circuits or UG cable. Additional 66 KV Circuits will be required between Kushalnagar & Madikeri., Kushalnagar & Siddapura, Kushalnagara -Somwarpet via Harangi- Kajoor- Yadavanad.
